i want to cut my cable bill, so i was looking at the tiers to see in which tiers the channels i watch are. i currently subscribe to basic and tiers 1, 2 & 3, for an approximate cost of $40/mo. i really only watch basic plus three channels in tier one and three channels in tier 3. but get this, if i dump tier 2, i end up actually paying *more* per month for the priviledge of getting fewer channels. what the fuck is up with that? greedy bastards. makes me want to throw my tv out the bloody window.
at first i was going to say "yes, throw your tv out the window!" but then i thought while that sounds cool, it's really not a good idea. you might hurt someone. heh.
my suggestion? just cancel all your cable (you don't watch much tv anyways *and* you can't cancel just 2, you have to cancel 3 first), you might go into detox for a bit (you can always rent the sopranos or sex in the city for a little taste of "tv"), but your mind will thank you for it later. i haven't had cable tv for three-four years now and i don't miss it at all. when i watch tv at a friend's house, it's like seeing bizarro world. ah! and i think "why the hell does anyone watch this crap?" *quickly erases history on web browser*

yeah, ever since i stopped having a tv, whenever i do watch it, it's the weirdest thing. i turn into a zombie; i can't take my eyes off all those moving pictures. it's like a sensory overload.
then i wonder if i get so zombified because i'm not used to it or if i'm only *noticing* the zombification because i'm not used to watching tv anymore.
I've really curbed my tv - watching habits - by turning on the stereo instead as soon as I get home. Really, its the background noise. And I read the paper instead of watching tv news. So I only watch things pointedly (and dont get a tv guide, either) such as Friends, or newsmagazine/documentary/biography kinda things like Roughcuts, Dateline, 20/20 and only if its a topic I'm really interested in.
But of course, I love my A&E, Life Network and The Learning Channel. Grr.
