you should just tell everyone to blogroll you, then they would get an automatic update on their links list - as would anyone else who visited their site. Best of all they could customize how they're notified, and no extra e-mail (cuz nobody needs that)

I've never been big on e-mail updates, but I'd go for a RSS feed if you have one.
